Caledonian Canal Trip 2012

A totally superb two day trip up the Caledonian Canal on 27-29 August 2012. We were the first Celtic Longboats to row up.

The Caledonian Canal runs some 62 miles (100 km) from Fort William to Inverness. Only one third of the entire length is man-made, the rest being formed by Loch Dochfour, Loch Ness, Loch Oich, and Loch Lochy. The team of 10, with a Pembroke and Celtic Longboat, travelled up on Monday 27th August. After a night camping, we will rowed the 60 miles in two days, finishing in Inverness, travelling back late 29th August.

Rowers travelled light, as everything was carried in the boat with no land based support team. At night we had hammocks (with flysheets) to sleep in, although a few found the safety of a bunkhouse. Food was in the boat or a pub on route.

Totally epic trip.
