North Pole Challenge 2023

2023 will welcome back “The North-Pole Challenge”.

The race, historically & affectionately known also as “The Montford Challenge”, is scheduled to take place on the 25th of March 2023. The race will consist of two demanding legs, starting and finishing in the heart of Shrewsbury at the Pengwern Rowing Club, but takes competitors out of the town, all the way upto the most northerly point on the scenic River Severn, locally known as the “North Pole”. We also plan to have an extra bonus sprint to really test a team’s endurance and strength, in this most demanding of races! Trophies will be awarded for the best aggregated times in Fastest Boat, Seniors, Ladies, Mixed, Veteran & Supervet categories as well as Pembroke and Teifi classes.

The North-Pole Challenge is of course open to visiting clubs & teams and is predominantly raced in either Celtic or Pembroke Longboats, but we encourage any class of fixed seat rowing boat to apply and join us on the day. Please email [email protected]  for further details here. All boats must be coxed and there should be no passengers.

Members race fee is payable on booking through the normal web-portal and you can also pre-order your “Montford Challenge” T-shirt for a very reasonable £16, available in small, medium, large & extra large sizes. You do not have to decide on your T-shirts when you book your place as you can come back later to the booking page and add to your T-shirt order

Full details for the race day will be published in the new year, along with joining instructions for visiting clubs. Pre-race breakfast will be available for those who need the extra energy and a post-race meal is included in your joining fee of £12 and of course the Pengwern bar will be open late into the evening with music to boot!
